2018 meeting dates of the Cape Cod Baseball Umpires Association. Note that meetings will be held at the Yarmouth Police Department community room:
Monday March 12, 2018   7pm YPD
Monday March 26, 2018   7pm YPD – important Interpreter’s meeting
Monday April 23, 2018   7:30pm moved to BARNSTABLE POLICE STATION
Monday May 14, 2018   7:30pm YPD
Sunday June 3, 2018   TBD

*There will also be an on-field (field-house) – clinic in early March.  Mandatory attendance for new candidates and members with 3 years or less tenure

Learn to Umpire Classes Announced

The Cape Cod Baseball Umpires Association will hold Learn to Umpire classes beginning Wednesday January 24, 2018. Successful candidates must attend a minimum of 5 of the classes, pass a written exam with a score of 85% and attend a mandatory on field (or field house) clinic.
Cost: $125 (includes class, first year dues, rule books and manuals)

McNally Award Presented to John Teehan

The Cape Cod Baseball Umpires Association presented it’s highest honor to longtime member John Teehan Sunday at its 2017 banquet.

Mark Delaney was eloquent in his introduction of Teehan saying ” John over his 25 plus years of umpiring has truly demonstrated & in my belief exemplifies the bedrock tenets of what the McNally is all about. Over the years John has gained the admiration & respect of fellow umpires, game assignors & yes even coaches for his on & off the field professionalism as well as his keen sense, knowledge & understanding of the game of baseball and his steadfast principles to fair play as well as his passion & zeal to share his wisdom & experiences with others, which transcends far beyond the playing fields and reflects an unobstructed view & unquestioned example of John’s character not only towards this game we also hold dear to us and John’s love & loyalty to family, friends community & country.”

Teehan now joins Doug Mason and Peter Hall as the only recipients of this prestigious award.

MV’s Fhagen-Smith Scudder Award Recipient

Martha’s Vineyard High School senior Elias Fhagen Smith was presented the CCBUA’s Roger Scudder award at the association’s annual banquet Sunday June 4th at the Brazilian Grill in Hyannis.

The Scudder award is given annually to a Cape high school senior who has demonstrated the characteristics of sportsmanship. Nominations are made by CCBUA member umpires, head coaches and athletic directors and are voted by the entire membership.

 

2017 Clinic a Home Run

Approximately 25 CCBUA members and new candidates were in attendance Saturday March 4th from 9am to 1:30 to work on perfecting their skills. Thanks to Bryan Andrade, Mark Delaney, Ron Musk, Ron Braga, Steve Shaw and Mike Rabideau for instructing at the six stations (cage work, plate mechanics, A,B, C positions). The morning was capped off with situational drills. Special thanks this year to Bourne HS AD Scott Ashworth for allowing us to use his gym for the camp!

 

Sad News

We are saddened to learn that long-time CCBUA member Jim Crowley passed away February 23, 2017. Jim had served as Secretary-Treasurer and Scudder award chairman for a great many years. A wake will be held for Jim on Wednesday March 1, 2017 from 5-8pm at Doane, Beal & Ames in Hyannis. A burial service will be held Thursday at 11am March 2, 2017 at Doane Beal & Ames
